Type Workshop
30.09.10

Things to think about:

Printing, yes it might look really good to print something square of circular, however you then have to go to the client and explain how they should loose money on wasted paper because it will look better than a typical A size.

Think about how you would say something, if you were saying something aggressive you wouldn't put it really small and in the corner would you?

Gutenberg bible - February 1452.

Information revolution, being able to communicate.

Times New Roman created in 1937.

Upper and lowercase lettering decisions to communicate.

8.5pt for a novel more like 12pt for a magazine by the way that you are holding/reading it, as for the relevance of columns and margins.

Task one - we were asked to express how we thought a friendly, shy, lonely and gaurd dog would be expressed in type.

1. Friendly dog, centre so it looks confident/ approachable. Also lowercase to feel less intimidating and a sans serif font to not come across as to serious.

2. A guard dog, Big uppercase bold font, as if to say nothing would get passed it. Also centered for the same reason to give the impression that you couldn't get passed. A serif font to express authority.

3. A shy dog, very small light font in the bottom right hand corner to express nervousness, not wanting to stand out and sans serif to express a delicate/ fragile feeling.

4. A lonely dog, very similar to a shy dog however i have put it in the centre because a lonely dog would want to make friends and doesn't neccessarely want to be lonely.
